Jeweler help

The first character I made was a jeweler. I may not fully understand this character. I thought this character would be good with gem making. After reading the description again I am not so sure. Can anyone shed more light on this for me?

The Jeweler is the fastest caster in the game.

Their class bonus gives them extra "draw haste" which means gems pop up for them faster in battle.

If you want to specialize in making gems, you're better off with a Craftsman or an Adventurer.

Considering this was my first character, does anyone have any insight on a viable recovery for this character. If not, I just night have to reroll him.
