Crafting, Artistry, and Resource skill restrictions
What possible reason is there for limiting only one skill in each of these categories to be raised above 10? Even with the ability to choose a second skill to advance at level 20, this still means you can never master all skills in one category.
It doesn't seem reasonable for balance purposes, as those skills are harder to raise than combat and magic skills. It also limits the capacity of crafters and the crafting system in general, as a good crafting system should encourage using components from multiple skills.
It's also very unrealistic. Roman gladiators could choose from a wide variety of combat styles to study, but the vast majority could only ever master one. A Gladiator who mastered two was at the top of the game, and the very small minority that mastered three were legends. Yet, every player may master all combat styles in this game.
History is filled with famous artists, craftsmen and outdoorsmen who master multiple skills. This is because the principles within these skills are more closely related than those of combat styles and weapon masteries. In fact, it's rare today to meet a hunter who doesn't also fish.
The only reason I can see for it is in mimcry of WoW. The only reason WoW restricted the learning of trade skills in this manner was because the system they used for skill advancement meant any twink could master his skills with enough gold.
