This is true, now, does it make a differance if you put it in one or the other and have the same?? Lets think about it for a second, one increases arrow damage....1 increases bow damage.....people have tested using them equal, and stacking on one or the other, I never said it changed the damage that was done. I said that if you read what it says when you level magic you will see this is true. In other words I am telling people to read.

I can't access the game itself from work, but I'll be sure to do that once I get home. =D
Would you mind telling me again which stat is supposed to affect bow damage & which stat is for arrow damage?
As well, I will run another test case today or tomorrow, redistributing all points from one to the other while using a high-damage bow & low-damage arrow. As the formulas in this game are multiplicative for the most part, I should see a drastic decrease in damage when weighting the stat bonus to the arrow instead of to the bow.
Lastly, if you already have the numbers on which this hypothesis is based, I'd be thrilled to see those too.

the difference in the two doesn't matter i guess, unless there is a point at which the bonus diminishes - some have said this happens at 300 skill level, some say higher. if this is true, it would be better to get 300 int, 200 cnc vs 400 cnc, right?

To clarify my earlier question, I keep seeing ppl say to distribute Defense points as; A GI #/ CNT 0/D UR # (all classes, not just Archer). I don't remember seeing any mention of Contravention, related to avoiding the annoying "Contravention is low" warning message.
@ Kerrlahg- So far, if I don't put at least 1 point into C NT every 2-3 levels of Defense, I get that long 2-line warning before every fight.
@ FastStang / Emperor006- I had been evenly leveling stats, and spreading the points out on my 1st 2 toons. I untrained Recovery and Magic, deleveled to 8, and redistributed points in all 4 stats. I immediately started getting the warning message, so I started lvling only Defense, putting all points into Contravention until the message stopped.
My newer toons (now lvl 7) were being lvl'd without points in C NT (following forum advice), until i started getting the message.

At that level, Dur is your best friend, irrespective of class. To the best of my knowledge, it's because of the way the stats themselves work:
AGI & CNT are percentage based, increasing chances to parry attacks or resist magic. DUR simply provides a flat +3 HP per point invested.
So, to answer your question with my opinion, I would assign only as many points as you need to get rid of the message. There will come a point -- it was ~level 26 in Orc Fortress for me -- where you will realize that the ability to prevent damage is more RT-effective than to simply absorb it.

And now I present patch v1.106, "Less Warnings, Auction Fixes, etc":
"You will only get the inadequate armor or CNT warning if you are below level 20, and even then it won't show up in the chat window, just as scrolling text. ..."
So get to level 20 and you will no longer have the warning, but I do think that CNT is beneficial to a lower player who is doing PvE, less time recovering is more time you get for killing monsters.

Is it better to put all Magic stats into cnc or would a split between cnc and int be more effective? I know there's been some debate about this and I haven't been able to find a clear answer. I've moused-over both cnc and int and they have the same description when it comes to bonuses for archers so if I take that at face value I'm thinking putting everything into cnc is a better idea just because it helps with successful gem casting. If anyone with experience could enlighten me I'd appreciate it

if you intend on using DD gems then a split would be good. if you are using DoT's or just not using DD gems then CNC is the only stat you need to put stat points into.
CNC = INT
Putting one point into CNC is the same and putting one point into INT.

That's what I figured. A few people are saying that one stat is for bow damage and one's for arrow damage but I'm not sure where they're getting the info from.

Read my previous post in this thread regarding archery stats. Basically I have redistributed several times and have found it is best to keep Cnc and Int equal. I'm not sure what exactly influences what, I just know that this works best. The mouseover changed, one used to increase max damage and the other used to determine how likely you are to do said max damage. I don't believe that has changed...just the wording. I don't recall any patches changing this. So take my redistributing gold loss as your gain, and keep them equal!

I think I'll just try 2 cnc 1 int and see how that goes. Thanks for the input guys and girls, I appreciate it.

Go back, read my posts, I never once said it changed the damage, he asked if one goes to bow damage and one goes to arrow damage. THIS IS CORRECT. Does it matter what you put em in??? I never said it did, I actually explained that it didn't in a differant way, I was never having a debate with you but now you are telling people to go read and you haven't read what I have stated. Please read then post, thanks.
