well I just want to say that it is a shame that a nice helpful guy like jarel makes one mistake and gets perma banned for it when the civil channel is full of cursing and bad mouthing and stuff all day long and I even had one new person after being told to keep it clean actually said that it was ok cos they ignored the newbies...this just shows what a mess the civil channel is and yet I seem to recall that itused to be that you would be banned first for a temporary period before being perma banned, not sure when that changed but I think that in a lot of cases if the player is known to normally be civil and makes a slip up maybe bring in a temp ban and then give the option to the player tostay clean or get perma banned...

I would think it unfair Gus. And I never said the Jarel's banning was unfair, just perhaps too severe a punishment.
Here is the thing. There are rules in civil. I'm a big believer in rules. Big believer. I'm also a big believer in penalties for breaking the rules.
I just think that there needs to be more definition of the penalties for breaking the rules, and some step between first reported offense and permaban. I believe that if Jarel were given a short ban, he'd not repeat the mistake. I don't know your friend, but probably the same for him/her. I don't want a double standard, just a stated standard. And, while I'm not superbly in favor of unbanning all those who are currently banned from civil, if changes are made, it would seem the only fair outcome. My two cents, take it for what you will.

I fully agree with your last post, ms ferrec, and I'd just like to add that the current standard seems to be "1 mistake=1 perma civil ban" so, in accordance to that, Jarel shouldn't be treated differently then anyone else.

I agree with Ferrec on this one. The punishment in general is far too strict for the crime. No double standards are needed. A new standard just needs to be set. It would be nice if Jarel were the first one reprieved by a new change in rules. A few days to a week should be all that's required of a first offense.
It would also be nice if, when someone is starting to get carried away, they're urged to tone it down before the punishments are doled out. Some of us don't realize we've said something bad until A) the enter key has been pressed, or B) someone responds to it. A lot of people would apologize and back off with just a warning.

Unbann them all or none at all! NO DOUBLE STANDARDS FTW!!!

Helas, I must agree with gus on this one.
I DO keep the conversation and the jokes quite a bit on the edge sometimes (and I enjoy doing so), so being banned has always been a possibility. While there are many chatters who do much worse and don't get caught, there surely are as many that get banned for less.
Thanks all for support, anyway.
P.S.: haem... while I do appreciate all the nice pm's I'm receiving lately, asking me questions there is pointless 'cause.... I CAN'T ANSWER THEM!! Wait for when I'll show up with an alt!
P.P.S.: yes, I had to create an alt.... *bangs head against wall*

I think the ban stick does not get taken out often enough myself. sorry jarel got banned but....rules is rules, though the enforcement is sometimes lax...deal with it. chat at your own peril.

yes rules are rules im afraid. no matter how cool the person gotta follow them or face the consequences if u break them.
If you dont like the way it is then you can thank the people that *****ed constantly until jeff made it more strict. There are a few threads about it, search you'll find it.
I think i'm going to regret saying this but why not tell your friends to come to uncivil. we have alot more fun.

Not usually one to post on these type forums, but my own 2 cents worth- All the times I've been logged on, Jarel has been nothing but helpful in the past. That by itself may not be sufficient to overturn, but Jeff- to be honest, I've certainly seen ppl saying much worse in Civil than ANYTHING I've seen Jarel pull.

Say, if Jeff does overturn this ban, what happens to all the other people that have been banned previously? They all get their bans lifted too?
Can't see that happening. Would mean Jeff is a slave to all you 'civilians'

I think there needs to be a change to how bans are laid out. I don;'t think first offense should be perm-ban. I was not on civil .I have no clue what was said. So i can't just go "omg it's Jarel let him be unbanned for he is my friend". Well I could but I won't. I do think, bans and squelch's should be more defined and there be more chance then just first offense. ~xoxo Amulet

I agree - a warning or something of that nature needs to be done first though that may or may not of occured because i dont know the whole story but either way it seems a little too severe. also - if ppl feel this strongly about things - i must say that civil needs to be modded then.
i /sign saying to allow Jarel back

You're right Ammy (and other who've suggested it) Squelching and warnings should be given for first offence.... Especially for otherwise civil players.
I don't deny Jarel should be punished in some way for his behavior in civil, but permaban is a bit severe for first offense with no warning.
This petition is to void the permaban, not the sqelching. He'll be expected to be on flawless behavior if he's allowed back in.
