Nodiatis story/poetry contest

The prize: 1 to the best poem, and 2 tc's to the best story.

The rules: Must be a fantasy story or poem about Nodiatis, including adventure or romance subgenres, whether about the princess or otherwise. Stories must be a minimum of 1000 words, poems must be a minimum of 300 words and no maximum. Poems may be of any rhyme/structure except free verse. Several related poems may be submitted to make up the 300 word minimum. However, no poem of less than sonnet length will be accepted.

Grading will be performed in many areas, including content, mechanics, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and length. I will be a grader, as will several anonymous people to include at least one English teacher.

Submissions will be open for 2 weeks or until I determine there will be no submissions coming. You may submit any number of stories or poems.

Remember, the longer and more in-depth the story is, the more I will enjoy it, and the better chance you'll have.

Haiku's are poetry but don't fall into your criteria. Why you no like haiku?

Betrayed by the King, ruining the town
Despair to bring and no heroes around

He struck the priest with all his might
Fell him - it took a single strike
No one resists the blackguard's smite
It takes away the will to fight

He took his sword and armor of light
Cackling with glee in bloody delight
Killing peasants for fun and fright
And again no heroes in sight

Reaching the depths he took alight
Great fireball grand and bright
A mighty mage burned the knight
In nod casters kill melees on sight

When it’s time to log in
In Nodiatis our adventure will begin
Begin with a splat
Splat the spider then read chat
Chat with players like Daer
Daer is the kind of player who shows noobies care
Care about your skills and stats
Stats are needed, but not to equip your bats
Bats can be fierce when you need them most
Most players prefer epics so they can boast
Boast at a player when you beat them in a duel
Duel with courtesy though, don’t be a fool
Fool your opponents with your own build
Build a unique character but don’t get killed
Killed are the monsters that cross your path
Path your way through dungeons to show a boss your wrath
Wrath will be needed if you want to get your combats and spirits
Spirits and combats are trophies that give experience to whatever skill(s) it befits
Befit for a king, the armor and weapon you will wield
Wield them diligently and never yield
Yield to no one, but during a boss maybe use a flee
Flee only to save your rested then open trade when someone says “free”
Free yourself from the burden of finding materials for sale
“Sale!” is what you will advertise after you pick up a knife and get too many of a tiered scale.
Scale up a mountain with your travel gear
Gear yourself even further to inflict more fear
Fear to you only happens during a server reset
Reset your hand if carpal tunnel is causing you to break a sweat
Sweat only happens when you give your foe a workout
Workout your caps lock and make people think you had shout
Shout at Glitchless “BUFF MELEE” only to get no reply
Reply to your friends to find out what level is their Trained Eye
Eye the forums to see what’s going on

Hail, Alliser, Alton Hollard disappeared last night, that makes 6 of us in the last 2 days. We have to tell the king.

My friend Jorah, don't be foolish do you really think the king cares? His army crushed, his empire in riots, his mind else where, we follow a madman.

A madman that we swore to oath to protect till the end. I will not abandon him Alliser, or the child.

Bugger the child! We have more important things to worry about. This forsaken land is filled with specters, it eats away at the soul. Look at our king, his mind and body are withering. Only one tatter ship remains of our escape from fa'ar. We are doomed my friend, make no mistake about it.

The locals say a goddess resides in the grooves where trees walk and whisps flutter. The locals say this mistress has the power to cure all illness, both physical and mental.

You and your superstition, we took Zugrul with his majesty and we did NOT see any bodies with his majesty's face on it. The town was starved, the last few remaining wizards were eating each other and cursing madly their gods. Am I to believe that trees walk and faeries exist now?

Alliser, I am going to go look for this goddess and request her help. This kingdom needs a king, and that child needs a father.

You have always been a fool Jorah. Do not include me in your hopeless quest.

Good Sir Alliser, where is Sir Jorah?

My princess, Sir Jorah has gone into the groove seeking food and medicine. He shall be back shortly, and safely.

That is what Sir Jorah has told me about Sir Loras and Sir Amory. I fear for Sir Jorah's safety, would you not seek and retrieve Sir Jorah? I miss his companionship.

(Pants) Jorah what in deities name is this thing, it has the strength of an ogre and the malice of a demon.

Alliser, focus, our enemy is coming again!

(As the tree-man turns crisp with fire, a hooded stranger arrives to recollect his gem of embers)

Halt! Are you friend or foe.

If I were foe, you two would be tasting the kiss of my embers right now.

Alliser, he did save our lives, lets see what he has to say.

Stranger, the woods grow darker, and I feel eyes on my backs.

Alliser is it? Do not fear, good knight. the lights are eyes in the forest. They tell of our approach.

This mistress knows we are coming? Why have you not told us that we lost the element of surprise.

Sir Alliser, this mistress knew of our coming hundreds of years ago. Just as she knows of our goings hundreds of years from now. She knows her fate draws near.

I feel cold Alliser, and a pressure about the air.

Ready your sword Jorah, prepare for anything.

(High pitched seductive voice) You have arrived at last Zugreeg. Are you here to claim my fate?

Mistress of Faeries, you should know why I am here, for our fates.

(Ambient voice) Our fates? you have such a misunderstanding of us deities. Would you let me but explains, I can give you knowledge that
NO DEITIES possess.

Enough, Alliser and Jorah, watch out for her faerie fire it is very potent. I have enchanted your shields to deflect most of her spells but nothing can stop faerie fire. Just keep her attention off me and I will do the rest.

The moment is now Alliser, CHARGE!

(The two knights lay charred and face down as their backs were blasted by embers hotter than the sun)

My mistress. (Kneels)

(Lighthearted voice) Does not revenge taste sweet, good Zugreeg.

It does my mistress. I cannot wait to rip that man's throat for what he did to my brothers in Zugrul.

(Celestial voice) I am at fault too for what happened to Zugrul, if I had not called you, the leader of your order, to come visit me, Zugrul would still stand.

NO my mistress, you are not at fault for anything. But why not send me to overpower him. He is weak and I desire to repay my brother's death.

(Malicious voice) Death is a sweet release from pain. The pain that man will suffer shall be agony. It is more painful to slowly rip his kingdom, his friends, his guards, and his family away, until nothing is left. The slow decay around that man will be repulsive.

Yes mistress. What about the child?

(Ponderous voice) The child has another fate, you do not need to concern yourself with her.

Where is Jorah and Alliser! Has all my most loyal guards abandoned me? Am I a lost king! Oh woe, oh DEITIES! no no, my child, do not be frightened, I still love you. I love you the most! I WILL KILL THOSE USURPER AND THE SAVAGE ORCS. no no no please don't come near me I am cold.... (Andol wanders off leaving the princess shocked and frightened)

Sir Stevon, we should leave. I fear for my father with each growing day.

Judging begins on Monday. The contest will continue for 2 weeks from Monday, as of now. Time may or may not be extended if there are still people wanting to submit.
