Default make arena more competetive

How?

more prizes.... at different tiers...

some ideas:

- +3 extra stat pt. of your discretion, permanent
- +1 extra stat pt. of your discretion, permanent
- morphed leg'dry armor (obviously maybe only top 5-7 teams or so)
- heroic essc's
- more TC's...top 10 teams get 10 per toon, maybe 11-20 get 7, 21-35 get 5, etc etc
- epic 88 gear
- epic 78 gear
- +1 to the skill of your choosing (CAN be a skill thats already at 100!!)
- etc etc etc

plz post your own ideas about good prizes that would increase the competetiveness of arena besides the obvious to p5 going for 3, top 15 going for 10, and top 120 going for 100.... the more tiers, the more competeive and fun arena can be.

Doubt that any of these rewards would make the arena more competitive, but they might induce more permanent teams to play more often. Face it, winning a 99 epic item doesn't have the same incentive it had a year ago, now that most players in the top 10 have at least some 99 epic and/or legendary items.

What would be nice is for this never ending season to finally end. It grew tiresome a month ago.

All the competetiveness, I feel, would come from more tiers of prizes...make ppl in spot 23 want to fight their way to 20.... ppl in spot 37 want to fight their way to 35....

I think prizes would help honestly. Some people may not concentrate on it because they won't get top 3. And the one tc isn't worth it to them. Doing this will give different prizes that may help them more.

Reading Roguetiger's second comment, sounds like we're all saying the same thing. The current prize system isn't much inducement to play the arena.

I garden after every fight. A time consuming pain in the tail, quite frankly. I've lost track of how many times I've been jerked away from the gardening screen to do an arena fight. I don't get that time restored, unlike getting jerked away from a mob fight. Gardening easily consumes one to two minutes of real time, or three to six minutes when accel is active. Having a 10% chance to get double veggies (when I do get double veggies, they're usually T2) doesn't make up for that lost RRT, at least not for me. Restoring lost resourcing time would a lot to get me more inclined to participate in the arena.

Tiered prizes may help since most teams just play enough to get in the top 100 for a TC then a percentage of those go for 1500 rating to temper 4X,after that there's not much incentive to keep trying unless there's a really good chance you can make it into the top 10.

@Thomas: Instead of giving this incentive, I'd do something else:
"When arena pulls you out of resourcing, you automatically get resources as if you had actually completed the minigame."

THIS would solve the problem and actually make arena INTERESTING for gardeners (as instead of WASTING time, it would SAVE some)

That would certainly make my day!!! You'd find my team in arena whenever all three of us were online if that was the case.

There is a dis-incentive for me to climb the arena ladder into top 100. I've realized that I don't want anything added to my name.

Perhaps... top 20 teams or so, it would be a process that would take some time (maybe a week or so after arena ends for Glitch's approval), get not only (top 10 teams) arena gladiator/champion, but ALSO, a customized tag, which you can add onto every arena season....

For Instance:

me and temari havent arenaed in like 3-4 weeks.

there is no real reason to arena anymore. yeah its fun, but its not worth rescheduling **** irl to do it.

personally, after this season unless something massive happens, and seasons become shorter, ill be in temp teams when farming, no more perma team, as i have my gear tempered, i have my 99 weapon i want (sure on other alts would be nice but they cant use anywhere near yet) the gear i want im aiming for.

arena is just becoming stale.

Maybe this has been brought up before, but.....

I'm sure there are a lot of people who might want to arena casually, but it just makes it that much harder to find a group. Between time zones and only wanting to fight "sometimes" it can be hard to get together.

What I suggest is a matchmaking service. People who are not in a full group and just want to do a few fights can still enter arena. They will automatically be grouped with others. This could be done in different ways.

1) You could enter pre-arena and as soon as you are matched to a group you will automatically enter combat just like a normal group.

2) People could be re-grouped after every fight. This might make it interesting since you won't even know who you are grouped with until the gong sounds. Even then you still might not know who the heck they are, or even what class they are. Or you could be given advanced notice that you've joined a group. (I think not knowing would be more fun)

3) Or, they could stay with the same group until someone leaves, at which time the remaining people go back to the matchmaking service.

4) The matchmaking could make an attempt to match players of similar abilities/level, or it could be completely random. The second choice would get more fights which is the goal, but some people might not like it.

5) I have no idea how incentives would work since it would be entirely temp teams. For casual players maybe none is needed since it's largely just for fun. Maybe create some individual incentives instead of group incentives???

6) This would be a good way for a lot of different players to team up together, learn from each other, maybe form permanent teams, drink beer, etc.

7) Since you are not pre-grouped for arean, maybe PKs could group with non-PKs.

8) Even though it's main purpose is casual arena, AFKs could be a problem. I don't have a solution except maybe a timeout if they are inactive, or a ban if they get a lot of complaints. Or maybe just look at it as one more random factor to make it more interesting.

9) Make it so a person can be on a normal team, but when their team is not available or doesn't want to arena, they can still join the random groups without leaving their regular team.

10) How do you rank normal groups fighting random groups? This might defeat the purpose of the OP to attract more people to arena. If random groups only fought randoms, it could actually decrease the number of normal arena fights. If randoms fought perms there might need to be some changes to the point/ranking system.

This is something that would have to be thought through, so I'm just tossing some ideas out there as they pop into my head.

I don't think that the arena awards are that much of an issue..
I really don't think perma-stat increases are vialble for it, because the majority of the time its going to be the same teams getting them farther increasing their chances to get it again the next year.

Being handed multi-millions worth of items isn't exactly fair either lol..

However ideas like heroic essence and the ability to take a skill above level 100 are indeed good additions. Despite contradicting my first statment about stat points.
