I searched but didn't find anything related.

It seems Epic Items are completely useless unless you have the virtues.

As an item that I think would be a strike of luck when it drops for you, I find it rather sad that there's absolutely no benefit for you out of the drop unless you have the Virtues. Nada...
Can't even sell to a store for its net sell value...

I think at least that would be reasonable.

This is in place so that you have to buy the virtues to get anything out of an epic other than destroy it...Revenue for a good game.
